Islanders take KingCo crown with perfect season | Prep tennis

Tuesday afternoon the Mercer Island girls tennis team celebrated not only their seniors, and their final home match of the regular season, but also the competition of a perfect league season. With a win over Mount Si the Islanders completed a 7-0 league season, and earning the KingCo title.

Against the Wildcats at the MIHS courts, the Islanders swept all matches, taking the meet with a 7-0 score.

In singles Chelsea Bailey beat Natalie Knoetgu 6-0, 6-0, while Karissa Walker beat Trina Eck 6-1, 6-0. Sophia Gage took the win over Lauren Wood with 6-0, 6-0 scores and Michaela Lee beat Tristan Taylor 6-0, 6-0.

In the doubles competitions Mercer Island’s senior duo of Kelly Crandall and Erica Baska won over Shelby Thomas and Bailey Barnard 6-3, 6-1, while Caroline Dillon and Ashley Larson beat Rachel Swarmy and Evanne Webster 6-1, 6-0. Adele Parson and Erin Crandall beat Meghan McCallum 6-4, 6-0.

The KingCo tournament begins on Monday, May 9 and runs through May 11 at Skyline High School. As one of the top two teams in KingCo, the Islanders will have three entires into the tournament, three singles and three doubles players.

The top four qualifiers from the singles and doubles tournament will advance to the SeaKing district tournament on May 18.
