The Mercer Island boys picked up two more wins this weekend in conference and non-conference play.

On Friday evening, the Islanders traveled to Mount Si, where they won 65-43.

Mercer Island dominated the first quarter, going up 18-3, while scoring another 17 in the second and keeping the Wildcats to just 10.

After the break, Mount Si edged the Islanders in the third quarter with a 15-11 split, but the final quarter kept Mercer Island on top with the Islanders garnering another 19 points toward the total.

Joe Rasmussen had 19 points during the win, while Sam Cohn added 13 and Kaleb Warner posted 10. Brian Miller had six points, Justen Altaras added five and Kyle Huber and Nick Nordale each had four. Espen Platou and Karsten Sherman had two each.

The next day against Renton, the Islanders earned another win, taking it with a 62-48 final score.

The team led the entire game, ending the first half with a 31-14 lead. While Renton’s offense kicked into gear in the second half, it wasn’t enough to overtake the lead.

Once again Rasmussen had the team high with 14 points, while Cohn had 12 and Warner added 10. Sean Hughes put up seven points, with Miller and Nordale posting five each. Altaras had three, Huber, Chris Lawler and Platou each added two.

The Islanders host Sammamish on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m.

The Mercer Island girls also travled to Mount Si on Friday, losing 47-45 in a close fought game.

Mount Si held a 20-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Islanders held the Wildcats to seven points in the second. The Islanders had a bigger second half, scoring 11 in the third and 14 in the fourth, but it wasn’t quite enough to sneak past with the win.

Savanna Reid had 16 points during the game, while Kris Brackmann had 12. Carly Andersen posted five, Marlo Cafarelli had three, as did Lauren Ellis and Jamie Mounger. Ari Moscatel had two and Renae Tessem had one.

The girls will play Sammamish on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m.
