Mercer Island brother/sister duo test skis at national competition

It might have been spring break for school, but Alex and Samantha Edwards were still working hard as they took part in the 2010 Nastar National ski competition in Winter Rock, Colo., last weekend. The siblings, who qualified for the national event after a solid year with the Sun Valley Ski Team, spent the weekend in Colorado, where they each finished seventh in their age division of the silver bracket.

It might have been spring break for school, but Alex and Samantha Edwards were still working hard as they took part in the 2010 Nastar National ski competition in Winter Rock, Colo., last weekend.

The siblings, who qualified for the national event after a solid year with the Sun Valley Ski Team, spent the weekend in Colorado, where they each finished seventh in their age division of the silver bracket.

According to their mother, Sarah Edwards, their top 10 finish came as a surprise because it was only their first year racing.

The duo skis with the Sun Valley team because there are no Nastar races in Washington.

While at the event, the family got to meet Phil Mahre, a former Olympic skier from Washington, and Jimmy Cochran, a current member of the U.S. Ski Team.
