Golf tournament honors former Islander coach

The third annual Gary Adrian Memorial Golf tournament, to be held July 11 at Mount Si Golf Course, honors the late Mercer Island coach and teacher.

The event, which gives the proceeds to The First Tee of Great Seattle, is an 18-hole scramble competition, beginning at 11 a.m. and running until 2 p.m. The groups of four will be assigned at the time of entry. The tournament includes dinner at the end of the day and an awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m., along with raffle prizes.

Adrian taught and coached in Bellevue, Mercer Island and Lake Washington schools for 32 years. According to the tournament organizers, the event benefits First Tee because of its dedication to ethics and attitudes for sports and life through the vehicle of golf, which was a philosophy used by Adrian.
