Mercer Island knocks off Hazen on the gridiron

Quarterback Eli Fahey threw three touchdown passes and ran for one during Mercer Island’s 41-12 home football victory over Hazen on Sept. 17.

Garrett Rogan gave the Islanders a 14-0 lead in the first quarter with scoring receptions of 10 and 24 yards from Fahey.

In the third quarter, MI upped its lead to 28-6 on a Fahey 8-yard run and a Davis Johnson 14-yard pass from Fahey.

Vince Catano closed out MI’s scoring in the fourth with runs of 38 and 7 yards. Catano finished the night with 18 carries for 103 yards. Fahey completed 16 of 28 passes for 157 yards. Samir Lumba kicked four PATs and Johnathan Headrick nailed one.

On the MI defensive end, Chase Shavey snagged and interception, and leading the team in solo tackles were Mitchell Fischer with four and Nicholas Fuchs and Archer Reid with three each.

The Islanders, who are 1-0 in 3A KingCo and 2-1 overall, will next play at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at Stadium.
