Mercer Island volleyball team earns second place at Class 3A state tournament

The Mercer Island Islanders volleyball team put together a season for the ages in 2017. Mercer Island, who finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 22-3, earned second place at the Class 3A state volleyball tournament on Nov. 11 at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. The Islanders lost to Capital 3-1 in the Class 3A title match. The Islanders won the second set 25-14, tying the match at 1-1 but lost the final two sets of action. Mercer Island defeated Gig Harbor (3-0), Stanwood (3-1) and Mount Spokane (3-1) at the state tourney.
