Mercer Island’s Cross Country runners perform well on senior day

The Mercer Island girls and boys cross country teams put together memorable performances on senior night on Sept. 20 at Luther Burbank Park in Mercer Island.

The Islanders girls squad captured first place in the meet, tallying 36 total team points (low score wins in cross country). Lake Washington finished in second place with 38 points and Liberty collected third place with 46 points. Mercer Island junior Margaret Baker finished in first place in the meet with a time of 19 minutes, 51 seconds.

Islanders’ senior Mary Rose Vu earned second place with a time of 20:32. Mercer Island senior Chloe Michaels registered an eighth-place finish (21:33).

In boys action, Liberty tallied a first place showing with 26 points. Lake Washington earned second place with 38 points and Mercer Island finished in third place with 68 team points. Islanders’ junior Alexander Benson finished in sixth place with a time of 18:03. Jaden Krauser finished in eight place with a time of 18:24.
