JP Bruckner, O’Dea win league title
Island resident John Paul (JP) Bruckner, an O’Dea High School junior, won first place during the Metro League Wrestling Championships on Saturday at the 215-pound weight class. Bruckner earned pins in all three of his matches (3:10; 1:39; 2:31) and moves on to the Region IV wrestling tournament in Wenatchee on Saturday.
The O’Dea team is led by coach and Mercer Island resident, Jeff Anderson, and won its 14 Metro League title during the tournament. The team qualified a total of 15 wrestlers for districts.
Student/Teacher Basketball Game
The annual MI Girl’s Basketball Select Teams versus Teachers Benefit Basketball Game will be at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 7 at Islander Middle School.
There will be a special halftime show and “celebrity refs.” A bake sale and concessions will also be available. $5/adults; free/students, teachers.
