Washington Wolfpack takes tournament title

The Washington Wolfpack Baseball Club recently captured the Skyline 15-and-under Invitational Fourth of July Tournament held July 2-4 in Issaquah.

The Wolfpack was led by Islander Andrew Higgins in the first game, as they beat highly regarded Dow Baseball 16-3. Higgins had two home runs, including a grand slam with eight runs-batted in. He had help by fellow Islanders Chris Black, who was 3-for-3, and Joey Scalzo, who went 3-for-4.

The Wolfpack beat the SBA Buzz from Federal Way and the Riverdawgs from Marysville, ultimately defeating Redmond’s Burnstead Construction in the championship game 10-5, to complete their undefeated tournament run.

Black, Higgins and Scalzo went a combined 7-for-11 against Burnstead to secure the win, with Black providing five innings of solid pitching. Other Islanders contributing were Kjell Sherman and Cullen Russell.

The Wolfpack recently secured fourth place in the 25-team 15-and-under Puget Sound Mickey Mantle League, qualifying for the state championship and the chance to represent Washington at the national championships held later this month in California. The Wolfpack will also be competing in a 16-and-under CABA World Series July 21-28.
