Team Washington sweeps East Coast lacrosse tournament

Nine Mercer Island sophomore boys, playing for Team Washington 2019, competed in Uplax, one of the top East Coast lacrosse tournaments, in Annapolis, Maryland. The team went 6-0 to remain undefeated. The last game was an epic last minute come from behind 7-6 win against Dukes from Philadelphia, one of the best select lacrosse teams in the country.

Mercer Island boys playing for Team Washington are Tynan Drayton, Ben Dunbar, Donnie Howard, Hunter Johnson, Paul Murdoch, Ryan Payne, Scotty Rowe, Devin Tamblyn and Stew Vassau. The team is composed of sophomore boys, predominantly from the Eastside, and is coached by Mercer Island Lacrosse Club program director Ian O’Hearn and Lake Washington head coach Dejon Hush.

Team Washington’s mission is to showcase the top high school players in the state every year at a national level. This year they competed in four national tournaments. Team Washington is a tryout-based program, with teams built according to graduation year, involving rising freshman through seniors in high school.
