Woods notches 126-pound title at wrestling invite

Mercer Island High School wrestler Lincoln Woods pinned all his opponents en route to a first-place finish in the 126-pound division at the Larry Brown Invite on Dec. 10 at Fife High School.

At 160, Daniel Mezistrano finished second after not having wrestled a match in competition for at least two years. He stepped up at the last minute to fill in for an injured teammate. In the team standings, the Islanders finished fourth out of 18 squads.

In its first home dual meet of the season, Mercer Island defeated Sammamish (63-18) and Renton (66-12) on Dec. 15.

On the night, Connor Flume (120), Woods (126), Gordon Gibson (132) and Daniel Bahner (160) notched two pins each; Leo Garry (113) and Maxwell Martin (138) had one pin apiece; and Jack Levitt (170) won by decision.
