Mercer Island firefighters award middle school student for bravery

The Mercer Island Fire Department presented local student Caroline Crow with a Fire Chief’s coin and a certificate on March 21, in recognition of her notable actions regarding a house fire last fall.

On Sept. 11, 2016, the MIFD was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm event. Upon hearing the audible alarm, Crow went outside to investigate and discovered smoke and flames coming from her neighbor’s house. This information was quickly relayed to the 911 dispatcher by her mother and was used to upgrade the fire response.

As a result of her quick action, the necessary emergency crews were alerted in a timely manner, reducing the damage that occurred from this incident. The MIFD commended Crow for her bravery and willingness to take action by alerting the proper authorities.
