Mercer Island mailbox bank blown up by unknown explosive device | Police Blotter

The blotter consists of officers’ accounts of crimes and other incidents in Mercer Island. Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Dec. 6

PROWLING: A woman said at 12:47 p.m. that her vehicle was prowled in the parking garage of the 77 Central Apartments some time over the weekend. Electronics were taken.

Dec. 7

DEATH INVESTIGATION: An elderly female was reported deceased in her house in the 5700 block of 91st Ave. SE at 11:57 a.m. Her last contact with her family was on Nov. 19.

MORE PROWLING: A victim said their vehicle was broken into in the 2200 block of W. Mercer Way at 3:41 p.m., and various items were stolen.

WARRANT ARREST: A subject with an outstanding warrant from the Mercer Island Police Department (MIPD) was booked into SCORE Jail from King County Jail at 9:52 p.m., with bail set at $2,000.

Dec. 8

THEFT: Lawn equipment was reported stolen from a work vehicle in the 2700 block of 76th Ave. SE at 7:42 a.m.

WARRANT ARREST: Mercer Island police assisted with a warrant arrest at 9:41 a.m.

MORE THEFT: A victim reported that jewelry was stolen from her home in the 4300 block of 85th Ave. SE at 1:19 p.m.

TELEPHONE HARASSMENT: An Islander in the 6100 block of 92nd Ave. SE reported being threatened by a phone solicitor at 3:29 p.m.

DEATH INVESTIGATION: Mercer Island police conducted a death investigation in the 7200 block of SE 34th St. at 5:57 p.m.

Dec. 10

MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: A mailbox bank was blown up by an unknown explosive device in the 9300 block of SE 57th St. at 12:36 a.m., causing $150 in damage.

Dec. 11

BURGLARY: A victim in the 4200 block of Shoreclub Drive said at 2:09 p.m. that they had left their garage door open, and items were stolen out of their garage and vehicle, for a loss of $835.

FOUND PROPERTY: A canvas bag of tools was found along the roadway in the 6800 block of Island Crest Way at 3:59 p.m. It appeared that the bag had fallen off a truck.

DUI: Police stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation in the 3400 block of 78th Ave. SE at 11:42 p.m. The driver had a strong odor of intoxicants and admitted to being under 21 years of age. She agreed to voluntary field sobriety tests, which she failed, and provided a breath sample of 0.088. She was arrested for DUI and processed at MIPD, providing readings of 0.075 twice. She was released to her parents following processing.

Dec. 13

MORE DUI: A subject was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in the 3900 block of 78th Ave. SE at 1:28 a.m.

PROWLING: A car was prowled in the west parking lot of the Lid Park while occupants were working on the south side of the soccer field at 1:49 p.m. A purse was stolen.

THEFT: Bottles of performance proteins were reported stolen in the 3000 block of 78th Ave. SE at 4:43 p.m.
