Mercer Island High School seniors Hannah Bahn and Charlie Landsman have been named the Rotary Islanders of the Month for March.
Bahn is a captain of MIHS varsity girls lacrosse, plays flute in the wind ensemble, is vice president of the National Honors Society (a community service club) and a BRIDGES leader. She volunteers in the community as a lacrosse coach for third- and fourth-grade girls and as a lacrosse referee, and serves dinner with her family at Hammond House, a Seattle women’s shelter. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and learning to play piano. The daughter of Tom and Betsy Bahn, she plans to attend a liberal arts college on the East Coast.
Landsman, the son of Broh and Tracy Landsman, is a Natural Helper and member of the National Honor Society. He also runs with the MIHS cross country and track teams. He volunteers in the community with VOICE, as a ski instructor with Outdoors For All, American Cancer Society Relay For Life Planning Committee, Seattle Foundation Youth Grant-Making Board, and the Mercer Island Farmers Market organized food bank program. He has also traveled internationally, participating in a service trip to a mountain village in Peru with VOICE, and a senior class trip to Vietnam and Cambodia, where he helped with orphanage support and a medical supplies delivery. He is also a graduate of the NOLS Wilderness First Responder Class and CPR Certification. In his spare time, he skis, hikes, backpacks, travels and does photography. He plans to attend Colorado College.
