SHARON DEAN

Former Islander Sharon Dean passed away early this year in Ithaca, NY after many years of living with MS. She was surrounded by family at her death. Preceded in death by her parents Lila and Jim Dean, she is survived by her husband Richard Chrappa, children Rich, Roger and Sherry; grandchildren Nicholas, Nathan, Carl, Sarah, and Emily; brother Gary Dean; nieces Diana and Patricia; nephews Derek and Stephen, as well as many cousins in the Northeast. Sharon’s education – BA, MSEd, MLS, and MBA – prepared her for what she wanted to do. Sharon worked in the library at Mercer Island High School in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Then, after obtaining her degree in library science, she worked as head librarian at Kennedy High School in Seattle. Sharon also started several businesses that she operated from her home. Her life was celebrated at a memorial service in May 2010 at the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca in New York State. She always loved Mercer Island and had hoped to come back one day.
