Sound Transit details upcoming I-90 lane, ramp closures

Two lanes will be closed on Jan. 6 as work on the Mercer Island station continues.

On Jan. 4, Sound Transit sent a construction alert explaining upcoming Interstate 90 lane and ramp closures over the next few months, starting Saturday.

As construction resumes at the Mercer Island light rail station, crews will continue installing communication fiber and perform demolition work on Jan. 6. Longer term closures are also planned to begin the following week for the westbound Island Crest Way HOV on-ramp.

To safely complete this work, crews will temporarily close the following lanes on I-90:

  • Westbound HOV lane from East Mercer Way to Luther Burbank Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Eastbound right lane from Shorewood Drive to North Mercer Way from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Beginning as early as Monday, Jan. 8, the Island Crest Way Westbound HOV on-ramp will close during daytime, off-peak hours as crews begin to form and pour sound walls on the north side of the station. This closure will occur Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is anticipated to last until approximately March 2. Drivers can use the West Mercer Way and 76th Avenue Southeast westbound on-ramps during this closure.
