Mercer Island’s popular Farmers Market returns for its 14th season at the customary location next to Mercerdale Park. It runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Sunday, with a continuous weekly schedule from June 6 through Sept. 26, and a special Harvest Market on Nov. 21.
Many Farmers Markets across the region were able to operate last summer with special coronavirus pandemic measures in place. This year, things should look closer to normal depending on King County’s COVID recovery status.
Its mission is to connect growers, consumers, and the Island business community to create a valuable, sustainable community asset, according to its website.
Also on its site, the market’s annual statistics are as follows: 2,000-plus pounds of food donated; six-plus tons of landfill waste diverted; 70-plus vendor participants; $700,000 in sales; 2,500 customers per market; 300-plus volunteers; and 2,300-plus Facebook followers.
Live music is also back on the calendar this year from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The performers will range from solo artists to full bands, presenting folk, rock, swing, bluegrass, gypsy jazz, blues, and more.
