South Mercer Ballfields renovation complete

Recent renovations to the South Mercer Ballfields have been completed. The $108,600 projected focused on two areas; replacing the grass and dirt fields with synthetic turf and replacing the ball park’s out-of-date lighting. As of last month, all of the fields have been converted to turf and the lamp posts utilize energy-efficient, reduced-glare spill lighting. Track lighting is activated on demand by users. Other improvements to the recreational area were also made. In December 2008, cedar and pine trees were planted at the west side of the field. The trees provide a lighting buffer for the adjoining residences. The pines replace poplars, which were removed due to the hazards that their roots posed to the nearby track surface.
