In its recently submitted SEPA application, MICA’s latest parking plan envisions that the city will designate the Mercer Island Thrift Shop parking lot as exclusively “owned” by MICA for the dozens of performance events it holds each year. According to MICA, the Thrift Shop lot will be reserved for VIP ticket-holders and others, many of whom one would expect will be non-residents. For Island families wishing to enjoy Mercerdale Park, including its train park, they will be relegated to second-class citizens and have to find other less-convenient parking.
Why does the City Council continue to hand out special favors like candy to this private developer?
