For the entirety of May, the city used the month to promote mental health awareness.
As one way of spreading awareness, the city’s Healthy Youth Initiative (HYI), in collaboration with the Mercer Island High School Minds Matter Club, sponsored the 2020 “Be Kind to Your Mind” art contest.
The contest drew 33 entries ranging from elementary to high school-aged youth. Entries were due May 31; all art had to both include the “Be Kind to Your Mind” slogan and some kind of acknowledgment of Mental Health Awareness Month.
Winners received a $50 gift card to Island Books; all participants were entered to receive a $25 gift card.
For this year’s “Be Kind to Your Mind” art contest, the winners, who were recently confirmed by the city, were Mia Thiagarajan, Aadyaa Singhal and Arshia Singha.
Go to the Mercer Island Youth & Family Services web page to see all entries.
