The 25th annual Lions Club student awards were presented this month to four Mercer Island High School students: freshman Kara Glass, sophomore Will Goodwin, junior James Kashima and senior Josh Radman, in honor of their contributions to the school and community.

Radman, who graduated this past week with the MIHS Class of 2009, has a 3.89 grade point average, is the senior class president and has earned a number of academic awards. On top of his grades, Radman stands out for his musical, athletic and leadership talents. He is a BRIDGES leader, member of the MIHS varsity baseball team, Natural Helper and an editor for the MIHS newspaper.

Kashima is also a talented musician and athlete. The junior plays varsity soccer on the MIHS team, is a captain of the boys cross country team and is a varsity wrestler during the winter season. He is a member of the MIHS wind ensemble, a MIHS band academic state champion, and recipient of the “Superb Soloist” award at the 2009 Columbia Basin College Music Festival.

Goodwin has maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout his freshman and sophomore years at MIHS. He swam varsity for MIHS during both school years and he spends his summers lifeguarding at the Mercerwood Shore Club. He also ran on the MIHS cross country team during his freshman year. Goodwin served as sophomore class president and is the junior class business manager-elect.

Glass is a teacher assistant at the Temple De Hirsch Sinai, has helped coach first-grade girls in chess at Lakeridge Elementary, and enjoys working with young children. Glass volunteers with Treehouse and Hammond House, organizations that help foster children and homeless women, respectively, as well as being a Natural Helper.
