During the 30th annual Mercer Island Fine Arts Showcase, “Creative to the Core,” students from around the Mercer Island School District exhibited their artistic talents through sculpture, ceramics, photography and many other mediums.

On Tuesday evening, students such as Mercer Island High School senior Josh Peters and Mike Jess, a junior, demonstrated the pottery wheel talents learned during a high school ceramics class.

Senior Gaby Barrios helped the younger visitors with spin art, including Lakeridge first-grader Claire Humphrey, who was attending the event with her dad and sister.

Attendees could choose to tour the artwork with a student docent, a new addition this year. The students explained the various projects and the assignments which spawned their creation. The tours included visits to the high school art classrooms.

Money raised from the event goes to the Mercer Island Fine Arts Advisory Committee, which distributes the funds to the various fine arts programs in the school district.
