The Mercer Island Communities That Care Coalition (CTC) has found that stores on Mercer Island are doing their part to prevent minors from making illegal purchases of alcoholic beverages. Over the past several weeks, members of CTC have surveyed stores as part of the statewide effort to prevent underage alcohol use. On Mercer Island, eight retailers sell alcohol and six of those sell spirits in addition to wine and beer. Six out of eight stores agreed to be surveyed. The Island survey found that:

No stores had alcohol advertising outside of their stores; None placed toys next to advertisements for alcohol and all limited the availability of high content alcohol products popular with youth.
