Attic fire damages Mercer Island home on Holly Hill Drive

Mercer Island, Bellevue and Eastside Fire & Rescue Departments responded to a two-story house fire on Holly Hill Drive at 10:37 p.m. Tuesday, April 1.

Mercer Island, Bellevue and Eastside Fire & Rescue Departments responded to a two-story house fire on Holly Hill Drive at 10:37 p.m. Tuesday, April 1.

The owners were at home when they noticed crackling sounds coming from the attic. They called 911 and evacuated, with fire units arriving within minutes of the call.  Mercer Island Firefighters, with assistance from the Bellevue and Eastside Fire Departments, contained and extinguished the fire. Eleven fire trucks and approximately 32 firefighters were at the scene, including 7 Mercer Island firefighters, 22 firefighters from Bellevue and 3 from Eastside Fire & Rescue.

The attic space and main level of the house sustained severe fire damage, while the floor below the fire sustained water damage from firefighting operations.
