The Mercer Island girls basketball team finished off its regular season games against Juanita and Interlake this season with a blowout 82-59 win over the Rebels and a 64-47 win over the Saints.

The Islanders continue to hold onto the top spot in the KingCo 3A league, with a 13-3 overall record and 8-0 in league.

On Friday night, at Interlake, the girls scored in the double digits every quarter and kept Interlake off the boards as much as possible, holding their opponent to just eight and nine points in the second and third quarters.

Facing the Rebels, Islanders started slow, but quickly gained steam in the second half of the match. The Rebels only outscored the home team once, putting up 19 points to Mercer Island’s 16 in the second quarter. Despite that, the Islanders held a 33-29 lead going into the second half, when things really took off. By the end of the third, they were up by 11 and never once stopped to let Juanita catch up.

The Rebels’ sister duo of Michelle and Kimberly Baba tried to slow down the Islanders offense, but their combined 31 points (20 for Michelle, 11 for Kimberly) didn’t get the job done.

Hannah Lilly had 18 for the Islanders, and teammate Kate DaPron posted another 16 during the win. Jae Shin hit 12 points, while Heidi Black and Hailey Gullstad each had nine. Freshman Kris Brackman earned six, as did Sarah Taylor, while Kaylia Balinbin put up four points.

Against Interlake, Shin posted 19 points for the team, upping her season average to 11.4 points per game. Gullstad had 10 points for Mercer Island, DaPron had seven points and Christina Williamson had six overall.

The team travels to Bellevue on Wednesday before hosting Sammamish on Friday night. The tip off on Friday is at 6:30 p.m.
