Bruce Bassett is the new mayor of the City of Mercer Island

Bassett and new deputy mayor Dan Grausz elected to office on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

There is a new look and feel at the Council Chambers at Mercer Island City Hall. At the first City Council meeting of the year, the Mercer Island City Council selected Councilmember Bruce Bassett as the city’s new mayor.

Outgoing mayor Jim Pearman nominated Bassett, who was first elected to the Council in 2007. The new deputy mayor is Dan Grausz. Grausz has been on the Council since 1999. The Council’s newest member, Debbie Bertlin, who was elected in November, was sworn in.

The vote for the pair was 6 to 0. Councilmember Mike Grady abstained from the vote.
