A one-car accident occurred in the 8500 block of West Mercer Way at 3:30 p.m. on June 16 when a black sedan crashed into a telephone pole and came to a stop over an embankment. Both passengers were transported to a hospital, one with serious injuries, and the other with minor injuries, according to Mercer Island Police Detective Pete Erickson, who said that “excessive speed” contributed to the driver’s loss of control.
