A house in the 3200 block of 90th Place S.E., north of I-90, was burglarized between 8:50 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25. The window of a side door in the kitchen was shattered, and digital video surveillance of a possible suspect and suspect vehicle was recorded. Two laptops were stolen, along with $100 in cash. The total loss was an estimated $2,150.

Feb. 18

DUI accident: A Toyota SUV driven by a Mercer Island man, 51, hit a parked vehicle in a lot and continued along 81st Avenue S.E., struck an object along North Mercer Way and veered down 77th Avenue and onto Sunset Highway at 1:30 a.m. His vehicle came to a stop upon a point of impact at the end of Sunset Highway. The driver, who sustained a cut to the bridge of his nose, was cited for hit-and-run and driving the wrong way. His vehicle was towed.

Reckless burning: An outdoor garbage bin was set on fire sometime after 3 p.m. at Islander Middle School in the 8200 block of S.E. 72nd Street.

Feb. 19

Theft: Four watches and cash were stolen out of a bedroom at a residence in the 4200 block of 95th Avenue S.E. sometime after 2:30 p.m. There were two suspects in the case, including a contractor who was working at the house and had inside access. The loss was $1,900.

Feb. 21

Theft: Two antique lamps were stolen after 7 p.m. from the Mercer Island Thrift Store by an employee who was closing the store. The employee, a Mercer Island resident, was cited after admitting to the theft and returning both lamps. The theft was caught on office surveillance video.

Feb. 22

Arrest: A Mercer Island man, 28, was arrested at 9:13 a.m. in the 4300 block of Island Crest Way after a traffic stop for an expired registration. He was driving with a suspended license and had an ignition interlock restriction violation.

Theft: A Mercer Island man, 79, reported that his garage sale sign was removed by a condo association member when he was trying to have a garage sale outside of his unit’s garage in the 2900 block of 76th Avenue S.E.

Feb. 23

Assault: A care facility employee was assaulted at 11:30 a.m. by a patient, an Auburn woman, who was arrested and had outstanding warrants. The suspect was released on investigation and taken to a hospital because of a medical condition.

Feb. 24

Theft: A wallet was stolen from a Mercer Island woman, 87, sometime after 4 p.m. in the 7800 block of S.E. 30th Street. The wallet contained a driver’s license, credit cards and $120 in cash. The total loss was $170.

Feb. 27

Stalking: A Mercer Island woman, 53, reported a male stalker in a vehicle parked near her condo on Feb. 12. The man was a customer at her work and had started stalking her in late 2009 by following her in his vehicle, which showed up at places she went several times.

Feb. 28

Malicious mischief: A blade was used to damage the interior foam cover of an elevator in a 77 Central apartment building sometime after Feb. 28. The cost of repair was $500.

March 1

Warrant arrest: Police arrested a Mercer Island man, 66, at 8:43 a.m. in the 7700 block of S.E. 27th Street. He had an outstanding King County Sheriff’s Office warrant and was driving with a suspended license. His vehicle was stopped after a license check. The driver signed a waiver of impound and was booked into the King County Jail for the warrant.

Theft: A Mercer Island couple reported the theft of multiple items that were stolen during the past year and a half from their East Mercer Way residence: an emerald ring, gold necklace, steel string guitar, iPod Touch, digital camera, men’s ring and amethyst ring. They suspected that their daughter stole the items and sold them for drug money.
