At the March 2 Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce meeting, board members Emmett Maloof and Ralph Swanson announced that the chamber would be making a $1,000 donation to Youth and Family Services to honor the group’s retiring executive director, Terry Moreman.
The chamber will host a reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at its downtown office (7605 SE 27th St., Ste. 109 ) to honor Moreman’s 26 years of commitment to Mercer Island businesses.
The chamber had a large turnout of about 70 people at its March luncheon, as City Manager Julie Underwood gave a presentation on the city’s litigation with Sound Transit and the Washington State Department of Transportation regarding access to Interstate 90. She also spoke about the impact of light rail construction on local businesses, the potential traffic diversion to the Town Center and the challenges for employees commuting from off-Island.
Island native Laurie Givan was named the chamber’s new executive director last month.
