City council approves amendment to interlocal cooperation agreement with King County

Mercer Island City Council approved an amendment to the interlocal cooperation agreement (ICA) regarding the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) between the city and King County at its special hybrid meeting at noon on July 28.

Council authorized City Manager Jessi Bon to sign the first amendment to the ICA, which the city entered into in July 2014. The ICA allows the city to apply through King County for federal CDBG funding for public infrastructure and park projects that serve moderate to low-income neighborhoods, according to city documents. The ICA also provides community members and nonprofits options to apply for home repair grants or loans, support homelessness, human service funding and more.

King County informed the city that a technical, non-substantive amendment to the ICA is required prior to Aug. 21 in order to maintain federal funding, the documents state.

The ICA was renewed for three-year terms since the start, and on June 20 of this year, the 2024-2026 automatic renewal of the ICA was placed before city council for review and approval.
