City council to hold land development public hearing on Feb. 21

Mercer Island City Council will hold a public hearing on Feb. 21 to receive comments on proposed interim amendments to Title 19 Mercer Island City Code, the city’s unified land development code.

In 2021, the state Legislature enacted a bill that required cities to allow transitional housing, permanent supportive housing, indoor emergency shelters, and indoor emergency housing in residential zones. The proposed ordinance, if adopted, would extend interim amendments to city code and extended for an additional six months by an ordinance on July 19, 2022, which is due to expire on March 21, 2023. The proposed ordinance will extend the interim regulations for another six months and establish a new work plan for adopting permanent amendments.

The hybrid meeting will begin at 5 p.m. Detailed instructions on how to comment live during the public hearing will be available online on or before Feb. 15 at: https://www.mercerisland.gov/citycouncil.
