Eleven Islanders have submitted their names for consideration for appointment to position No. 4, now open on the Mercer Island City Council.
The Council will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. on Jan. 6 at City Hall to interview the candidates. The meeting is open to the public.
The candidates are: Megan Coppersmith Szerwo, Darren Gold, Bradley Jennison, Ralph Jorgenson, Andrew Lamb, Steve Marshall, Terry Pottmeyer, Carl Silverberg, Matthew Tardif, Joel Wachs, and Wendy Weiker.
Their applications can be found in the special meeting agenda at http://sirepub.mercergov.org/meetings/cache/108/etg1l13tj0udrp45d31ksc45/41700012312014015908989.PDF.
Tana Senn, who currently holds position No. 4, was elected representative to the Washington State Legislature for the 41st District in November. She announced her resignation from the Council effective Jan. 5, to focus on state issues.
Each candidate will have five minutes to speak to the Council and answer questions about why they want to serve on the Council, what experiences or skills they will bring, which regional issues they have an interest or expertise in, and if they want to serve on the City Council because of a particular local issue, or if their interests are more broadly distributed.
The Council will vote to select a new councilmember from the candidate group at the Council’s regular meeting on Jan. 20.
Through the city’s website, the MI Weekly and the Mercer Island Reporter, residents were encouraged to apply for the vacancy by submitting a letter of interest, a resume and answers to supplemental questions. The city clerk received the 11 applications by the deadline of Jan. 30 at 5 p.m.
