Emmanuel Church takes on Carbon Challenge

Over the past three months, members of Emmanuel Episcopal Church have readily accepted and met the “Carbon Challenge,” developed by the Mercer Island Green Ribbon Commission to reduce household and transportation carbon consumption in 22 different ways.

Over the past three months, members of Emmanuel Episcopal Church have readily accepted and met the “Carbon Challenge,” developed by the Mercer Island Green Ribbon Commission to reduce household and transportation carbon consumption in 22 different ways.

Households were asked to sign a commitment card, hang it on the Carbon Challenge Tree in the church and keep tabs of their steps taken on the 22Ways checklist.

Established in spring 2009, the Green Ribbon Commission is a public-private partnership dedicated to reducing CO2 and other atmosphere warming greenhouse gas emissions and building an innovative, prosperous, resilient and livable community.

Thirty-one Emmanuel Episcopal Island households, from singles to families, participated in the 22Ways Challenge and 306 actions were taken.

The top households included Nick and Kami Bohlinger, and Nile and Marilee Clarke, Allan and Ann Affleck, Dave and Barb Beatty, and Lee and Sue Stiles.
