Fastpitch hammers Interlake

Mercer Island fastpitch snapped a five-game losing streak Wednesday, April 23, hammering Interlake 22-4 at South Mercer Playfields. The Islanders got off to a quick start, scoring five runs in the first, and then using a 13-run second inning to put the game away. Makenna Pellerin went 5-5 with 5 RBIs, a triple and a home run. Shaune Lam went 3-5 with 4 RBIs, and Morgan Peyou was 3-5 at the plate while scoring three runs. Mercer Island will travel to Juanita High School to take on the Rebels at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 25.

Baseball falls to Sammamish

Sammamish ended a two-game winning streak for Mercer Island baseball, scoring two in the second and pulling away with two more in the fifth to beat the Islanders 4-0 Wednesday, April 23 at Sammamish High School. The loss dropped Mercer Island to 6-3 in the KingCo standings, a half-game behind second-place Mount Si. Brandon Lawler went 2-2 for Mercer Island, and Jake Stenberg went 1-1 with two walks. Next up, the Islanders will take on Interlake at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 25 at Interlake High School.
