Fifty years of fun at MIPA Circus

With live music, games, food trucks, pony rides and more, the beloved Mercer Island community event celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Ask any child (or parent) attending the Island’s annual Circus, put on by the Mercer Island Preschool Association (MIPA), what their favorite part of the event is and they will all have a different answer.

From face painting and pony rides to food trucks and live music, the event gathers hoards of volunteers, community members and kids of all ages and backgrounds for a day of play.

This year’s Circus, held April 23 at Mercer Island High School, marked a milestone. The beloved community event, previously themed “Circus McGurkus,” has been going strong for 50 years.

To commemorate the occasion, MIPA organized an alumni event in March to gather past and current generations of volunteers. They also had a “clown brigade” to greet Circus-goers with red noses and stickers that said, “Thank you for coming to the 50th Circus.”
