Firefighters extinguish structure fire

Copious units were on the scene.

Mercer Island Fire Department units, with assistance from the Bellevue Fire Department and Eastside Fire and Rescue, extinguished a structure fire in the 2400 block of 70th Avenue Southeast on the afternoon of Oct. 19. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters, who quickly brought the incident under control.

Mercer Island units were dispatched to the home at approximately 1:50 p.m. and a battalion chief noticed heavy, pressurized light grey smoke exiting the northern eave of the attic. There was significant damage to the structure and the contents inside.

The emergency response team consisted of two battalion chiefs, four fire engines, two ladder trucks, one medical services officer, one medic unit and one aid unit. Mercer Island police were also on the scene for traffic control, and PSE turned off the utilities to the structure.

The fire cause determination remains under investigation.
