A 43-year-old former patient came to the New Hope care facility at 2:04 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, and made threats. The man became angry after staff members refused his demands for a ride to the Southcenter Mall.

A 43-year-old former patient came to the New Hope care facility at 2:04 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, and made threats. The man became angry after staff members refused his demands for a ride to the Southcenter Mall.

A licensed practical nurse, 31, called 911 as the suspect paced at the reception desk and threatened employees. The suspect threatened to burn the facility and shoot people, according to the police report. He gestured as if he was going to pull out a gun, according to the report, but was not armed. Four witnesses were present.

He was arrested and booked into the King County Jail.

New Hope is located at 7445 S.E. 24th Street.

April 18

Accident: A flatbed truck struck a vehicle at 1:55 p.m. in the intersection of Island Crest Way and North Mercer Way. The truck continued straight into the intersection from a left-turn-only lane as the other vehicle was exiting westbound I-90. The truck driver, a Maple Valley resident, said that he maneuvered straight instead of turning left because he was following his GPS navigation directions. Both drivers claimed having a green light. Police could not verify who had the green light, as there were no witnesses.

April 22

Wallet theft: A 47-year-old Mercer Island woman reported that she left her wallet, a Coach brand, on a bench in Luther Burbank Park around 12:30 p.m. The wallet contained credit cards, ID and insurance cards. The woman had been in the park from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. When she came back to look for her wallet, it was gone. She canceled her credit cards before any fraudulent action occurred.

April 24

Disturbance: A mail carrier reported a half-clothed woman, 19, shouting at a 20-year-old man at 11:25 a.m. outside of a residence in the 4600 block of 81st Avenue S.E., below West Mercer Way. Police officers responded to the scene and found that the disturbance was a verbal argument between a dating couple. The woman had an injured hand and the man had a scratch on his face but both said that no assault had occurred. The woman’s mother was home but did not witness anything.

April 25

Accident: A rear wheel detached from a Mercedes-Benz at 8:40 a.m. in the 2800 block of 80th Avenue S.E. The wheel rolled across the southbound lane and struck a legally parked vehicle on the west side of the road. The Mercedes’ wheel hub was missing all lug bolts, and the 53-year-old driver said that all of her tires had been changed the previous day.

Package theft: Three packages were stolen out of the fifth-floor common area at the Parc Mercer condos in the 2700 block of 76th Avenue S.E. The packages contained a “Big Bang Theory” series boxed set, glass microscope slides and a bottle of shampoo. Two UPS and FedEx packages were stolen between 1:16 and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, and an additional UPS package was stolen between 1:03 and 6 p.m. on Friday, April 26. The packages were the property of a 32-year-old man.

April 27

Deer struck: A deer was struck after dark in the 3600 block of Island Crest Way. A police officer responded to the scene after receiving reports of a severely injured deer in the roadway. The officer dispatched the deer. Sarvey and a local tribe were asked to remove the deer, according to the police report.

Fraud: Two unauthorized, separate bank accounts were opened in a 49-year-old Mercer Island woman’s name between March 29 and April 23. One suspect has been identified.
