A series of car prowls in the northeastern corner of Mercer Island were reported on Jan. 4. One of the prowls occurred sometime overnight or during the early morning hours in a neighborhood north of I-90, in the 9400 block of S.E. 33rd Street.

The rear window of a Lexus was shattered and a gym bag containing clothes and workout shoes was stolen out of the vehicle, along with an iPod and headphones, totaling $800 in loss.

Three more car prowls took place overnight in the 4000 block of 90th, 94th and 97th Avenues S.E. A window of a Toyota Highlander was smashed, but no items were stolen. The prowler left finger and hand prints in ice on one of the vehicle windows — according to the police report, the evidence “indicates that suspect(s) had brushed the ice off the left side rear window to get a look inside the vehicle.” Police planned to lift any prints that remained after the ice melted. A purse, which contained a wallet and debit, credit and gift cards, was stolen out of a locked Saturn Relay after the driver’s window was broken out. The front passenger window of a Volvo was also broken in an attempt to pry it open, but no items were stolen from the car. There are currently no known suspects.
