Mercer Island boasts four of top five scores on the links; Hill registers hat trick in win over Wolverines.

Girls golf beats Bellevue

Taking on the team that ended their six-year winning streak at the end of last season, Mercer Island girls golf scored a 219-236 win over Bellevue Tuesday afternoon at Jefferson Golf Course.

The Islanders had four of the day’s five lowest scores, with Abby Zhong posting a scorecard of 41, good for second place, on the front nine to lead Mercer Island. Kate Peterson finished third with 43 strokes, Rachel Fujitani was fourth with 44, and Whitley Pearson tied for fifth with 45 strokes. Bellevue’s Julia Dai took the top spot, shooting a 40 for the day.

Mercer Island is back on the links Wednesday, taking on Juanita at 4 p.m. at Jefferson Golf Course in Seattle.

Hill posts hat trick in win

Ryan Hill scored three second-half goals as Mercer Island boys soccer improved to 6-0 in KingCo in a 4-1 romp over Bellevue Tuesday night at Bellevue High School.

Hill scored in the 55th, 58th and 64th minutes, and also assisted a goal by Steven Woolston in the game’s closing minutes to keep the Islanders (6-1-2, 6-0-0) undefeated in league play.

Mercer Island will take on Interlake at 7:30 p.m. Friday at MIHS. The Saints (7-1-1, 4-1-1) are tied with Liberty for second place in the division and suffered their lone loss of the season to the Islanders March 24.
