Mercer Island High School (MIHS) staff members recognized recipients of the Mercer Island Community Scholarship on May 23 at the annual awards celebration held at the school. Administrators, PTSA volunteers, families and friends were also in attendance.
The Mercer Island Community Scholarship is a long-standing Island tradition that celebrates 28 MIHS graduating seniors each spring.
This scholarship program is administered by the Mercer Island PTA Council in partnership with the MIHS PTSA, MIHS administration and staff and the greater Island community.
Scholarship recipients demonstrate perseverance, a passion for learning, and are positive contributors to both their classroom and community. Students are identified by MIHS staff from 10 areas: English, math, performing arts, science, social studies, visual arts, world language, college and career readiness (CCR), Crest Learning Center and a Principal’s Award. Additionally, the recipients receive a scholarship up to $500.
One student also receives the Braman Family Writing Award.
“It is through your encouragement, your compassion and kindness that you show towards others in all that you do, that helps build a stronger, more inclusive and caring community,” said Stephanie Parmenter and Amy Richter, Mercer Island PTA Council vice presidents of programs.
The scholarship program is funded through the sale of Grad Grams and by direct donations from individuals, community organizations and local businesses. Grad Grams are available to purchase through June 15 at https://miptacouncil.membershiptoolkit.com/grad-gram.
