Despite two home runs for the Mercer Island baseball team, the Islanders lost to Interlake on Monday, April 22. The final score was 5-4.

Interlake scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the third inning, and added four more in the bottom of the fifth. Mercer Island’s first run came in the top of the sixth, followed by three runs in the seventh inning, but the late surge wasn’t enough to overtake the Saints.

Interlake had five runs on five hits with one error, while Mercer Island had four runs on seven hits and one error.

Alex Himstead was 2-3 at the game with a home run and an RBI, while Brian Higgins was 2-4 at the plate with a home run of his own and two RBI. Mercer Island pitchers included Alfonso Gonzalez, Higgins, Aidan Plummber and Eric Kittilsby.

The Islanders will take on Juanita on Wednesday, April 24 in a 6:30 p.m. game at Island Crest Park.
