A group of teenagers in a third-story apartment threw beer cans onto the sidewalk below while drinking together around 11 p.m. in the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street on Sept. 10. Police contacted one noticeably intoxicated 17-year-old suspect, whose father was present, at the apartment. The suspect and her father did not give police permission to enter the apartment. Citations included one count of furnishing liquor to minors and one count of minors in possession.

Aug. 30

Tubing accident: A 13-year-old boy was injured in an inner tubing accident on Lake Washington at 1:10 p.m. when his friend, who was riding with him, landed on top of him after their tube went over a wake. Both teens stayed on the tube behind a 23-foot boat, north of the East Channel bridge. The boy was taken to the hospital with back pain. There were no other injuries.

Sept. 5

Car prowls: A $250 wet suit was stolen out of a Subaru parked in the south Luther Burbank Park lot on 84th Avenue S.E. between 7 and 8 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed out the driver’s window and bent its lower frame. The estimated damage was $500.

Someone used an unknown tool to pry open and smash a vehicle window in the 1600 block of 72nd Avenue S.E. between 7:30 and 11 p.m. The door edge was also pried out. The vehicle, a Volkswagen Jetta, was locked with an activated alarm, but the alarm did not go off. The thief stole a purse that contained a laptop, iPod, camera and other items.

Sept. 6

Car prowl: A rental car was broken into between 4:30 and 4:35 p.m. in the 3600 block of 80th Avenue S.E. The victim, a 68-year-old visitor from Santa Barbara, Calif., was unloading the vehicle. During the victim’s brief absence, the driver’s window was smashed out of the Toyota Camry and a new Apple computer worth $1,500 was stolen from inside.

Counterfeit payment: A customer at the Sunset Chevron in the 7600 block of Sunset Highway passed a counterfeit $20 bill. The suspect is a 30-year-old Seattle man. One witness was present. Video images of the suspect and his vehicle were captured by a security camera.

Sept. 7

Theft: A 68-year-old Mercer Island man reported that his maid service stole $50 worth of prescription medication and Viagra pills from his home on 78th Avenue S.E. The theft occurred between Aug. 7 and Aug. 29.

Tree fall: A 23-year-old man climbed a tree in north Luther Burbank Park and fell 20 feet when a limb broke as he was attempting to come down at 2:40 p.m. The man, a resident of unincorporated King County, sustained injuries to his head and face. A Mercer Island Fire Department aid unit transported him to Overlake Hospital. He said that he climbed the tree “for fun.” One witness, who was also climbing the tree, was present.

Sept. 8

Theft: After buying $400 worth of parts for repairing his furnace system, a 69-year-old Mercer Island man never received the parts. He attempted to contact his contractor, the suspect, a 40-year-old Redmond man, who could not be reached.

Lost ID: A 19-year-old Mercer Island girl reported that her purse was missing after Sept. 6. The purse, which contained a German-issued driver’s license, passport and ID card, was likely taken out of a friend’s vehicle. The girl canceled her temporary bank credit card.

Malicious mischief: Park signs and lumber for a new trailhead staircase were spray-painted brown with symbols and words in the 3000 block of 84th Avenue S.E. where a project in upper Luther Burbank Park was underway. The previous day, a stranger had interrupted the construction workers by “acting very crazy” and touching their tools, according to the police report.

Sept. 9

Arrests: Police booked a 42-year-old Kent woman into the Issaquah Jail at 9 a.m. on two $5,000 outstanding warrants.

Police arrested a 47-year-old man at 3:17 p.m. in the 8700 block of North Mercer Way during a traffic stop. The man was driving with a suspended license. His vehicle was impounded.

Threats: A 42-year-old resident of the 6600 block of East Mercer Way on Department of Corrections community supervision called 911 and threatened to harm officers if they came to his house.

Sept. 11

License plate theft: An unknown suspect stole the front license plate off of a vehicle in the 2700 block of 78th Avenue S.E. sometime after Sept. 4. The plate holder and grill were also stolen.

Sept. 12

Paddle board thefts: Someone stole a 12-foot paddle board out of a yard in the 2800 block of 60th Avenue S.E. overnight. The owner, a 44-year-old Mercer Island woman, used the board every day and last saw it in her yard at 8 p.m. the previous evening. The board was worth $1,400. No items were missing from the woman’s shed, where she had stored the paddle.

A paddle board was untied and stolen from the roof of a vehicle, where it was left overnight, in a driveway in the 7600 block of West Mercer Way.

Arrest: Police arrested a 27-year-old SeaTac man at 10:39 a.m. after stopping him for several traffic infractions in the 2300 block of West Mercer Way. The man was driving with a suspended license. He was cited at the MIPD and released. His vehicle was impounded.

Sept. 13

Obstructing police: Police pulled over two vehicles in the 8800 block of S.E. 40th Street. One passenger, a 24-year-old Mercer Island man, exited his vehicle and interfered with the police officer multiple times. The officer gave the man several warnings, which he did not heed. He was arrested for obstructing at 9:10 p.m.

Arrest: Kirkland police arrested a 22-year-old man with a Mercer Island warrant. The suspect was booked into the Issaquah Jail.

Phone theft: An iPhone was stolen out of a boy’s backpack in Mercerdale Park at 6:35 p.m. The boy left his backpack on the ground as he was skateboarding. He saw two suspects stop briefly while they were walking by his backpack. Then he saw that his backpack was open and had fallen over. Police located the suspects and searched a suspect’s backpack on consent but did not find the phone. The suspects said they did not steal the phone.

Drugs: Police responded to a report of voices heard after hours at the 77th Avenue S.E. Landing and found four young men consuming alcohol. Police arrested a 21-year-old Mercer Island man who was in possession of two marijuana pipes and a bag. The other three suspects were cited for possessing and consuming alcohol in the park. The arrested suspect was released from the MIPD.

Paddle board theft: A 12-foot paddle board was stolen out of a yard in the 4000 block of East Mercer Way overnight. The resident last saw the board at midnight, when she took her dog out. She discovered that it was missing at 7 a.m. A large carry bag was not taken.
