Islander competes in Miss Washington’s Outstanding Teen pageant

Competitors are young women are judged for community service, talent, and academics.

Miss Emerald City’s Outstanding Teen, Rachel Jewett, a 17-year old Mercer Island High School junior, was one of 28 who competed in the Miss Washington’s Outstanding Teen scholarship pageant on Memorial Day weekend. She won a cash award for her interview with judges.

The competitors are young women are judged for community service, talent, and academics.

Rachel’s focus was “The why — getting involved in your community.” She sang in the talent competition.

Over the past seven years, the organization has made available more than $4 million in college scholarships to young women.
