Islander DECA students head to State competition

38 Mercer Island High School students ready to show their business skills at Bellevue event in March

Mercer Island High School’s DECA program announced that 38 students have qualified for the DECA state competition from March 6-8 in Bellevue. More students are still under consideration. In Bellevue, students will vie for the opportunity to attend the DECA International Career Development Conference in Atlanta in May.

“I am so proud of our DECA students. They showed up at this pressure-cooker competition where they were asked to think on their feet and present their business solutions to a panel of business professionals,” said teacher Jen McClellan.“They were insightful, knowledgeable, creative and smart.”

DECA is an international association of high school and college students and teachers that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
