Islander loses $40,000 in internet fraud | Police Blotter

The blotter consists of officers’ accounts of crimes and other incidents in Mercer Island. Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

June 20

THEFT: Identity theft was reported at 8:49 a.m. in the 8400 block of SE 78th St., for a loss of $1,159.

FORGERY: Three prescriptions were found to be forged at 11:40 a.m. in the 3000 block of 78th Ave. SE. They were filled and picked up by a woman in her 20s or 30s, who was recorded on surveillance video.

TRAFFIC OFFENSES: A vehicle was parked on a roadway, which was going to be paved, in the 6500 block of SE 32nd St. at 8:29 a.m. The contractor paid for the vehicle to be towed, and the owner was contacted.

June 23

MORE THEFT: A victim reported an apparent wire fraud/internet hack, for a loss of $40,500 by way of international wire transfer. They provided paperwork documenting the hack at 8:12 a.m. in the 2700 block of 77th Ave. SE.

MISCHIEF: Vehicle prowling, theft and property damage were reported at 9:10 a.m. in the 8300 block of Avalon Drive.

MORE MISCHIEF: Property damage and probable mail theft were reported at 5:35 p.m. in the 4400 block of E. Mercer Way.

FRAUD: Credit card fraud was reported at 2:19 p.m. in the 7400 block of 91st Ave. SE.

LOST PROPERTY: A woman in the 3000 block of 81st Place SE reported losing her green card at 4:25 p.m.

June 24

THEFT: A bike was reported stolen from an open area on the side of a home in the 4300 block of 91st Ave. SE at 4 p.m.

June 25

SUBSTANCES: Police contacted two subjects in a cul-de-sac in the 2800 block of 75th Ave. SE at 11:06 p.m. who were known for drug activity and underage drinking. Both were 18 years old, and found with small amounts of marijuana, a bong and other paraphernalia and a partial 18 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. They signed consent search forms and were cited for all related criminal offenses.

June 28

WARRANT ARREST: A subject was arrested by Lake Forest Park police officers on a Mercer Island warrant at 8:31 a.m., and booked into Issaquah Jail.

MISCHIEF: Property damage was reported at 9:22 a.m. in the 4400 block of E. Mercer Way.

THEFT: The front license plate was reported stolen off a vehicle parked in the 4000 block of E. Mercer Way at 10:51 a.m.

MORE THEFT: A victim in the 4000 block of Island Crest Way said he paid $673.40 for a security fix after a screen on his computer told him it was infected with a virus.

June 29

MORE MISCHIEF: The side window of a victim’s vehicle was shattered in the 4000 block of 90th Ave. SE at 12:37 a.m.
