Islander receives Honorary Mention on Water Polo All American Team

Mercer Island grad Sam Sussman received honorary mention on the Collegiate Water Polo Association’s 2013 All American Team, the association announced April 6. Sussman, now a first-year medical student at the University of Washington, helped take the 2013 Huskies to the division title game, where they were runners-up to Oregon in the Northwest Championships. Last year, Sussman was named to the Northwest Division’s 1st Team. He ranks 9th at UW for career goals and 6th for career assists.

5th/6th grade team wins Boys & Girls Club league title

Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club 5th/6th grade basketball team, the Bluejays, won its league championship March 10, beating the Golden Eagles 31-28 in the league final. Team members include Will Rogers, Alex Patel, Jaden Krauser, Karun Mokha, Kiran Jacob, Noah Hendelman, Cameron Longwith and Sam Merritt. The Bluejays are coached by Kevin Bernstein and Reid Fuhr.
