The Mercer Island wrestling team beat Lake Washington 54-27 Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Mercer Island High School.

Mercer Island’s Kevin Pedersen pinned Sam Sombath to win the 106 match, and Taylan Yuasa pinned Hay Nguyen to win the 120 match. With the win, Yuasa improved his season record to 15-1. Trevor Gullstad, Scott Lee and Jake Pruchno won their respective 132, 138, and 145 matches by forfeit. Nic Meinzinger-Richards pinned Anthony Neveraz to win the 160 match. Lake Washington’s Saul Del Rio won the 170 match by a 4-3 decision over Tanner Ranz, and Eduard Kravchuk pinned Mercer Island’s Teague Frazier to take the 182 match. Evan Condon won the 195 match by forfeit, while Lake Washington’s Martin Berger pinned Dylan Majewski to win the 220 match. And in his first career wrestling match, Evan King pinned Ryan Short to win the 285 match.

Next up for the Islanders will be a conference matchup with Juanita Thursday, Jan. 9 at Mercer Island High School.
