The Mercer Island boys basketball team suffered its first KingCo loss of the season Tuesday, losing to Lake Washington 60-46 at Lake Washington High School.

The Mercer Island boys basketball team suffered its first KingCo loss of the season Tuesday, Jan. 7, losing to Lake Washington 60-46 at Lake Washington High School. The loss brings the Islanders’ KingCo record to 4-1 on the season.

The Islanders led 13-8 after one before Lake Washington outscored Mercer Island 20-12 in the second quarter to take a three-point lead into halftime. The Islanders remained down three points after the third, but the Kangs went on a 12-0 run en route to a 20-9 fourth quarter to secure the win. With the victory, Lake Washington tied Mercer Island for second place in the KingCo standings. Andrew Pickles led the Islanders in scoring with 26 points, followed by Kaleb Warner with 10 and senior captain Jake Stenberg with 8.

Mercer Island travels to Bellevue Friday, Jan. 10 to take on the first-place Wolverines at 8 p.m.
