Islanders to take on Globe Trotters alums to raise money for MIHS to march in Rose Parade

Islanders and basketball fans are invited to join in the fun on May 20, when a group of hardy (and brave) Islander athletes take on the alumni of a famous basketball team. Fans are invited to cheer on Mercer Island Bands Director Parker Bixby and his team of fellow “Islander Community Leaders” as they challenge Harlem Globetrotter Alumnus and Guinness World Record Holder, Wayne Clark, and teammates to a game of basketball.

All funds raised are in support of sending the MIHS Marching Band to Pasadena, Calif., to represent our community in the 2012 Tournament of Roses Parade.

Tickets are on sale now for the 7 p.m., May 20, event at the Bellevue College Gym. There will be a raffle for prizes, photographs with players, contests and more. Band members are selling tickets for both the game and the raffle.

Raffle prizes include a seven-day cruise on the Caribbean and an Xbox 360.

Island players will include KIRO’s Dave Ross, State Sen. Steve Litzow, Mayor Jim Pearman, MIHS principal John Harrison, MIHS security officer Kelly John Lewis and several teachers and staff at the school.
