After seeing its postseason competition postponed due to fall weather, Mercer Island boys tennis wrapped up 3A KingCo Tournament play Monday, Oct. 27 at Bellevue High School.
Brian Hou finished second in singles competition, falling in the final to Bellevue’s Zach Fleischman 7-5, 6-4. The Wolverines’ Theo McDonald took third, beating the Islanders’ Jake Bethards 6-4, 6-2.
In the doubles final, Bellevue’s Hunter Egger and Daniel Foster won over Mercer Island’s Ben Elliott and Charlie Williams 6-1, 6-1. Islanders Cameron Coe and Peter Williams defeated teammates Rafa Gonzalez-Posada and Christian Anderson for third place, winning 6-3, 6-1.
By reaching the semifinal round, Mercer Island advanced its three doubles teams and two singles players to the district tournament in May. The Islanders will be gunning for their fifth-consecutive 3A team title.
